Crochet - The Good, bad and The Unbelievable

It's been a week of ups and downs here. It's so easy to write about the things I've made that have worked but that is not always the way things go...

...I have, however, been working hard on my Christmas orders. Last week I managed 8 hats, 24 coasters and some tree decorations. This was good considering I really only managed to crochet in the evenings once the children were down. Even though I am always grateful to have orders, making items to sell can take a lot of time and means my mind is focused on numbers and stitches. When this happens I find it hard to think creatively. Last week I made silly errors, firstly while making a beanie, I was using a yarn that I wasn't 100% happy with when I remembered I'd bought a very nice ball of wool in a similar colour. I abandoned the hat and re-started with my new wool, only to get 3/4 of the way through before realising I wouldn't have enough to finish the hat - I could have kicked myself!

Next I attempted a different type of flower for one of the hat embellishments, a simple ruffle rose, it did not turn out the way I hoped. Not to be beaten I tried again making small adjustments and paying more attention. This flower turned out better but the whole process took me over an hour!

Getting there!

It went on like this all week, I was also trying to create a pattern for an item I've had in mind but every time I picked up my hook and began to crochet, it just didn't look right. It really started to knock my confidence and the more that happened the less I achieved. I was feeling overwhelmed and uninspired when the December issue of 'Inside Crochet' magazine came out and in it was the most lovely piece on my blog. I had been contacted by the magazine a few weeks before but I don't think I truly believed it until I saw it! It was so amazing to see some of my work featured in print, especially amongst all those other fabulous designers; I've hardly been able to stop smiling. It gave me such a boost and last night I picked up my hook once again and that design came to me as if I'd made it several times over. So I just want to say a big thank you to Inside Crochet and to everyone who reads this blog - It means a great deal to me that you are here. ♥

Sweet coasters waiting for their new homes.

The basket of shame, it may just look like wool but I can count 4 unraveled/abandoned projects here!

My blog feature in the December issue of Inside Crochet - aahhh :))

I don't often read crochet magazines but I would definitely recommend this one - It was packed with great projects, I read it cover to cover!

Anyway, I feel like I have my mojo back now and I have a few more projects that I'd like to post before Christmas so I shall be back soon.

Bye for now. Em xx
