Crochet Podcast Episode 44

{10.10.21} What I've been making in Sept/Oct

Episode 44 of the Lulu Loves crochet podcast is now up. I’m sharing lots of seasonal crochet *ahem* PUMPKINS anyone, a beautifully romantic new WIP, some new crochet books and yarn along with the usual book and TV chatter…

Finished Objects:

Okay, it’s mostly pumpkins this episode and I’m not even sorry! I’ve worked up my Rustic Pumpkin pattern in the most gorgeous autumnal yarn; James C Brett Rustic it’s a chunky weight yarn (77% acrylic, 20% wool, 3% viscose) which is what the pattern was designed for so it was perfect. I love the colours and the texture is just perfect for autumn! I’ve used the shade RU02 for my pumpkin.

I’ve also been playing with a striped pumpkin design and have been working them up using Scheepjes Stonewashed yarn in lots of lovely pastel colours. I’ll try and write the pattern up as I’ve been using a slightly different method to create these pumpkins and it seems to be a bit easier!

Also sharing the news that my crochet spiderweb collar pattern is now available as a YouTube tutorial! It’s a perfect quick project for giving any outfit a spooky touch. The Free pattern and link to the YouTube tutorial can be found in this post here.

I’m sharing the most beautiful WIP in the form of the Eaton Top from the new Sheepjes Yarn Bookazine. This issue is based around Romance so I had to buy it! I’m really enjoying my new project and I can’t wait to try more from this issue (you’ll have to watch the podcast for a peek at the other gorgeous patterns featured)

New Items:

I was very kindly sent some new cotton yarn to try by Tuva called Hello Cotton, they come in 25g and 50g balls. The choice of shades is impressive and I’m excited to try it in some future projects. Tuva is based in Turkey and you can find the yarn here I'm not sure if they deliver to the UK but I’ve also seen that you can find it on Amazon too!

They’ve also sent me a copy of their new publication Sweet Crochet Animals which is full of the most adorable amigurumi animals to make designed by Khuc Cay. I’ve popped a link here although it was out of stock when I looked earlier so keep a lookout for it soon.

My copy of Moorit also arrived this week. Moorit is a new independent crochet magazine based in Scotland that focuses on wearable modern crochet garments and accessories designed with natural fibres. It is the brainchild of Alyson Chu of the Keep Calm and Carry Yarn podcast. Alyson launched a Kickstarter project back in January to raise funds for the first issue and I was so happy to support a magazine dedicated to crochet that I signed up straight away! Issue 1 is everything it promised to be, it's full of a range of beautiful designs that promote natural yarns, is size inclusive plus the photography is just stunning. I think you will recognise some of your favourite crochet designers in there too! I'm already looking forward to issue 2.

I’m raving about Underbelly by Anna Whitehouse (@Mother_pukka on Instagram). A fast-paced book about the dangers and implications of sharing your life online. The book follows two mums who meet at the school gates, one makes her living from Instagram Ads and the other is an aspiring writer. It’s funny, dark and engaging. I flew through it in a weekend. Available here on Amazon UK and here on Amazon US

I'm also enjoying The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, which follows a set of twins from the 50's to the 90's. It explores race, gender and the legacy that our past can leave on future generations. Available here on Amazon UK and here on Amazon US. Don't forget to check your local library for copies too!

I've just finished watching The Vigil on Iplayer and Midnight Mass on Netfilx... perfect spooky TV for Autumn!

That’s it for this month. I hope you are all keeping safe and finding some time to enjoy some crochet or reading (or whatever you love to do) – please don’t forget to ‘like’, ‘subscribe’ and ‘share’ if you enjoy the podcast, it really means so much to me.
