Crochet Pattern - Round Ruffle Cushion

Crochet Pattern - Round Ruffle Cushion

Hello. I’ve got another pattern for you today. Surprise surprise I’ve made another cushion…

I finished this one a couple of months ago now. It was inspired by the lovely blooming flower cushion by Lucy of Attic24 and the crocodile flower cushion I made using Joyce Lewis' pattern. I really wanted to create a layered round cushion that had some of the texture I loved from the centre of the crocodile pattern.

The ruffles are simply made by ch-3s and raised double crochet front/front post single crochets around the trebles/double crochets from the previous round. What I liked most about this method is that as you are working around the posts of the previous round to create the ruffles it leaves both loops of the stitches free for the next round (as opposed to working through only one loop.) There is something about this that makes me very happy!

The yarn I used is Rowan Pure Wool DK in colours raspberry, gold and anthracite. I bought these after my trip to the Kaffe Fassett exhibition where I resolved to be bolder in my colour choices. I like the way they look together and the cushion goes well in our living room but I haven’t been able to stop myself making another in my well-loved muted tones. I have also been using this pattern to create potholders in some cotton yarn – so far so good :)

The pattern itself looks quite long so I have put it straight to a pdf. It’s very repetitive but I wanted to include each round so that you have stitch counts for each of them – I know this helped me a lot when I started reading patterns. I have also written out the pattern I used for the back, which is just a standard treble/double crochet circle pattern. The pattern is written in UK terms.

If you are concerned about the raised double crochet/front post single crochet there is a great video tutorial here.

Also if you are new to crochet I just wanted to mention that Kat from Slugs on the Refrigerator is running a Crochet Camp on her blog this month. Kat is going through the basics of crochet and has some sweet patterns that you can make alongside the lessons - Definitely worth checking out.

Anyway, if you’d like to have a go you can download the pattern for my ruffle crochet cushion from Ravelry here: buy now or from my Etsy store here.

If you do try it and you have any queries please get in touch and I will do my best to help.

Bye for now. Em xx
